cracked windshield caravan

This is what it's like to drive around on the plateau of the dunes. We had lunch today at some new friends' house. They have what I think is the nicest house in Niamey, with a bike trailer in the driveway--a bike trailer! I forgot about bike trailers! No one here even has a stroller--and funiture imported from Denmark. After lunch by the sparkling pool and drinks in pretty glasses on the lovely cushions of the teak chaise lounges, I was a little shocked to walk out the gate and face reality. "I forgot I was in Niamey," said my ten-year-old daughter. I'll try to get a photo of my new favorite house for you.

What's funny is, we were talking about how liberating it is to live here. I adore fashion, but it's nice to not have to follow it, to not feel funny if you aren't wearing the exact shoe you are suppose to wear. But when I got home, I wanted to live in a different house. Or at least have furniture from Denmark.
