It's pronounced Kay-Pock here in southern California. Also called a silk-cotton tree. The genus name (and used commonly here too) is Bombax. Related to the silk floss (also called floss silk) trees in South America. Also related to the baobab tree. The fluffy seeds are what they stuff (some) furniture and pillows with. When a tree blew over at the arboretum we had to pot up hundreds of cuttings. Was the director's favorite plant but not the nursery workers'.
